100% Responsibility: A Powerful Principle That Can Set You Free

One of the scariest but also most liberating decisions anyone can make is to begin taking 100% responsibility for their life. When many of us heard about The Law of Attraction be it through The Secret or the many other books, audio programs or DVD’s that have come out about it something dawned on us. If what they said was true not only could you attract and create your ideal future, but you attracted and created everything that has happen so far.
For some people that was a bit much to handle. After being conditioned to blame all our troubles and issues on someone else or external circumstances this blow was as scary as it was cool. But even if the victim mentality is a very easy way to shuffle safely and quietly through life that is no way to truly live.
In order to escape the burden of their responsibilities a lot of people chose to take the good and toss away the bad. After all they could start to attract the life of their dreams without having to admit that they’ve created the crappy situation they’re already in right? Wrong. Most of the time those people don’t end up getting anywhere. Even though it’s true that the Law of Attraction is like Gravity, it works whether you believe in it or not, it’s these people that after trying to attract their dream life for a few weeks, maybe even a few months, give up and blame it on circumstances.
They’re easy to spot, people that always point the finger saying things like “the secret is a load of junk” or “the law of attraction just doesn’t work for me my luck is horrible”. The truth is unless you take full responsibility this is inevitably where you end up. To achieve all the good you want in your life some work is going to have to be put into overcoming past programming as well as a certain amount of patience so you can stomach the wait without loosing the belief that it’s coming.
If you’ve taken full responsibility for your life at this point then you’re fine no matter how long the wait is or how much work may need to be done. It often takes a little bit longer to manifest the goodness in our lives but we have to keep absolutely certain that it’s coming. Too often we give up right as our breakthrough is about to happen. Don’t worry about time, don’t keep asking why it hasn’t gotten there yet, just concentrate on what you want, feel it, make room for it in your life, and know that it’s gonna be there at the perfect time.
So how can you start taking full responsibility? This is up to you. Each person deals with things differently but one thing is for certain, forgiveness is a must. Jack Canfield and others have been known to say that no matter what someone else has done to you they were just doing the best they could with the information they had to work with at that point in time. Understand that whatever happen to you you’ve attracted it into your life, but don’t think of it as a negative. After all you wouldn’t be the awesome person you are, reading what you are, and knowing the things you know if it hadn’t been for those experiences. Every event, whether we classify it as negative or positive has a lesson in it that helps you to grow and become a more confident, more happy, or just plain better person. Take responsibility for attracting that event, but realize that no matter what it was good in some way, so in reality you’ve only ever attracted positives.
So start now, follow the action steps below and start taking 100% responsibility for the life you’ve created thus far. And if it’s not the life you want, than know that you’ve just removed a major roadblock and can start instantly creating a better and more fulfilling life.
Action Steps:
-Write down everything that’s ever happen to you that you’ve classified as a major “negative” in your life. All of the things people have done to you, mistakes you’ve made or circumstances that have held you down over the years all go on this list. Now when you’re done writing them down, next to each point write out exactly how it’s benefitted you. No matter how bad the situation you’re sure to have gained something. The death of a loved one often makes you appreciate the good times more, value human life, and strengthens you in a deep intangible way. Obstacles that were placed in your way helped you to grow so that you would overcome them or at least deal with their existence. Don’t stop until you can see the benefits from each and every negative you’ve written down. Trust me, it’s like sucking poison out of the wound, you’ll feel better instantly.
-Write a letter or have a pseudo conversation with anyone that ever hurt you profoundly. Tell them how angry you were, how they violated your trust or shook your trust in humanity, let them know how much you cared about them and how it wasn’t ok that they did that to you, and then let them speak or “answer” the letter. Hear them saying the things that they never had the guts to say in real life. Telling you the things you needed to hear, like that they are sorry, that they didn’t know any better and that they never intended to cause you pain. Hear them tell you all those things and allow those words to set you free from the burdens you’ve carried all these years.
-One last action step, get in the habit of looking at events from the positive angle all the time. There’s really no such thing as a negative, it’s something we create in our minds by focusing on the bad that came from a specific event or situation. In reality there is always exactly the same amount of good as there is bad, it just sometimes takes a while till you can see all the good. If you focus on the bad parts of the event you’ll just attract more to feel bad about, but if you feel good knowing that there is a valuable lesson or opportunity for personal growth in the event then you will begin to attract that growth into your life and speed up the healing process greatly.
